Winter Bathroom Remodel Timeline, Lead Times and Prices

Indiana search interest in bathroom remodels peaks in January, and "bathroom remodel" autocompletes locally in 10 of the 21 Central Indiana areas we checked. Nothing about the work depends on the weather, and the lead times are the part worth planning around.

Short answer: winter is a good time to remodel a bathroom. Most remodels run 2 to 4 weeks from demo to final punch list, and vanities and shower glass have lead times, so measuring and ordering in November or December leaves room to start after the holidays. Keep-the-layout remodels run $8,000 to $18,000; a full gut with a tub-to-shower conversion runs $18,000 to $45,000. Every remodel is quoted after a site visit.

Bathroom Remodel Prices

  • Keep-the-layout cosmetic remodel: vanity, paint, tile floor and fixture swap, $8,000 to $18,000.
  • Full gut with a tub-to-shower conversion: $18,000 to $45,000, depending on tile, vanity level, shower type and plumbing.

Every remodel is quoted in writing after a site visit, because tile choice, shower type and plumbing changes move the number. Smaller bath fixes, like a faucet or toilet repair or tile repair, are priced separately. Full details: bathroom remodel.

Living With a Remodel in Winter

  1. One-bathroom houses: ask how long the toilet will be out before you sign, and plan around that window.
  2. Holidays: if guests are coming, plan the demo for after they leave rather than racing the calendar.

What Is Outside a Bathroom Remodel

Structural changes, new electrical circuits, gas lines, HVAC and mold remediation are outside our scope. Nick's Handyman Service, LLC is a licensed general contractor, not a licensed plumbing or electrical contractor. Our plumbing and electrical work is repair and replacement on existing lines and circuits. We book Monday through Friday, 8 to 6, and Saturday, 9 to 2. Evenings, Sundays and other after-hours visits can be arranged ahead of time at a $225 minimum. We are not an unscheduled emergency service.

Common Questions

Is winter a good time to remodel a bathroom?

Yes. The work is all indoors, Indiana search interest in bathroom remodels peaks in January, and finishing in winter leaves spring free for outdoor projects. The main thing to plan around is lead time on vanities and shower glass.

How long does a bathroom remodel take?

Most bathroom remodels run 2 to 4 weeks from demo to final punch list. The critical path is tile install, grout and a 24-hour cure, vanity lead time (1 to 3 weeks in stock, 4 to 8 weeks custom) and shower glass, which takes 1 to 2 weeks from measurement to install.

How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Central Indiana?

A keep-the-layout cosmetic remodel (vanity, paint, tile floor, fixtures) runs $8,000 to $18,000. A full gut with a tub-to-shower conversion runs $18,000 to $45,000, depending on tile, vanity, shower type and plumbing. See bathroom remodel.

Should I start my bathroom remodel before the holidays?

Only if it will be finished well before guests arrive. Most homeowners do better measuring and ordering in November and December, then starting demo after New Year's, so the bathroom is never torn out with a full house.

Can I keep the layout to save money?

Yes. Keeping the toilet, sink and tub or shower where they are is the single biggest cost saver because no plumbing has to move.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Permit requirements vary by city and by scope, and we confirm them before starting.
