Winter Indoor Projects

Winter Indoor Projects Painting, Drywall, Tile and Bath Refreshes

Exterior work slows down once Central Indiana turns cold, and the inside of the house gets its turn. Rooms that need paint, walls that need patching, a backsplash you have been putting off, or a bathroom that is due: winter is a practical time to get them done.

Short answer: interior painting, drywall, tile, flooring and trim all work year-round in a heated house, and Indiana search interest in bathroom remodels peaks in January while drywall repair peaks in February. Send photos and a short list to (317) 893-3717 or nicholas@nhsindy.com and we price it in writing. There is a $150 minimum, and most small jobs run about $350; remodels are quoted after a site visit.

Why Winter Works for Indoor Projects

Paint, joint compound, tile mortar and flooring adhesives care about the temperature of the room, not the weather outside. In a heated house they behave the same in January as in June. Indiana search data shows the demand shift: interest in bathroom remodels peaks in January, drywall repair in February, and interior painting climbs from January into spring.

  4. Walkthrough at the end. You check the work with us before we go.

We book Monday through Friday, 8 to 6, and Saturday, 9 to 2. Evenings, Sundays and other after-hours visits can be arranged ahead of time at a $225 minimum. We are not an unscheduled emergency service.

What Is Outside a Winter Indoor Visit

New electrical circuits, gas lines, HVAC, structural changes and mold remediation are outside our scope. Nick's Handyman Service, LLC is a licensed general contractor, not a licensed plumbing or electrical contractor. Our plumbing and electrical work is repair and replacement on existing lines and circuits.

Common Questions

Can you paint interior walls in the winter?

Yes. Indoor painting works year-round as long as the room, the walls and the paint stay within the temperature range on the can, which for most interior latex means a heated room around 50°F or warmer. Low-VOC paint keeps the smell down when windows stay closed. See interior painting.

Is winter a good time to remodel a bathroom?

For many homeowners it is: Indiana search interest in bathroom remodels peaks in January, nothing about the work depends on the weather, and it can be finished before spring projects compete for the calendar. Remodels are quoted after a site visit; see bathroom remodel.

Why does my drywall crack in the winter?

Dry heated air shrinks framing and drywall, so nail pops and corner cracks show up in winter. A ceiling that separates from interior walls each winter and closes up in summer is usually truss uplift, and the fix is trim rather than more joint compound. See drywall repair.

Which way should a ceiling fan turn in winter?

Clockwise at low speed, looking up. The U.S. Department of Energy recommends this for winter because the gentle updraft pushes warm air near the ceiling back down. Switch it back to counterclockwise for summer.

What does a winter project visit cost?

There is a $150 minimum, and most small jobs run about $350. The table on this page lists the published ranges for each kind of project; every job gets a written price before work starts.

Can you combine several small indoor jobs in one visit?

Yes. A punch list of small items is usually cheaper as one visit; see the Honey-Do Hub.
